RCMP flashes
Here is a pic of the current RCMP shoulder emblem.
RIGHT --
Part of my collection was on display at the National Police Insignia Collectors show in Glendale, Arizona from July 5 - 7, 2013.
ABOVE -- the current RCMP Auxiliary shoulder flash.
ABOVE - this one says CANADA just below the crown. A better close-up is
shown 3 pics below which is a close-up of the standard shoulder flash.
ABOVE -- TOP - RCMP vest back patch measuring 3 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches (8.9 x 24 cm); BOTTOM is for the chest
ABOVE - older item; measures 4 x 13 inches (10 x 33 cm).
ABOVE & BELOW -- Standard shoulder flash, except this version says CANADA below the crown. Compare this flash with the one shown at the very top of this page.
ABOVE - says CANADA just to the Right of the copyright symbol.
ABOVE -- small tab, 54 mm x 98 mm, for use on sweaters a while ago; likely unofficial; similar to the tab used on some ERT vests
BELOW - Some old style RCMP patches. One RCMP Auxiliary is felt and the other is cloth. The RCMP Chauffeur item at lower right was actually a hat badge.
ABOVE - a more recent addition to the collection
ABOVE - immediate past issue RCMP shoulder flash.
BELOW -- a novelty item.
ABOVE AND BELOW -- Old and current RCMP lapel pins of shoulder flashes.
ABOVE -- old RCMP Transport flash; on Page 3 - Badges - there is a Transport badge pictured; these are obsolete.
BELOW -- RCMP Emergency Response Team flashes/patches and others --
TOP ROW: Top Left black & gray and the camouflage one next to it are known actual issue items. The tan one and the white one in the Top row have been used by Members even if they were not officially issued items. The items in the Top row were obtained from a Member of the Force.
ROW 2, Far Left - says Nova Scotia on it. This is the only emblem pictured which is fully embroidered and is known to be at least 20 years old.
ROW 3: The one in this row at Far Left is unique in that it says both GRC and ERT.
BOTTOM ROW: PDS - unofficial one for Police Dog Service
CENTER ITEM -- from the front of the vest carrier. The area behind the word POLICE is highly reflective.
I have heard 2 stories about the RCMP ERT and PDS flashes. One story is that, if the flash does not have GRC on it, then it is not official issue. The second story is that in some areas, the team uses flashes that say ERT on them even though they are not official issue.
I have also heard that some enterprising people just make up color variations and sell them, even though they are fantasy items.
In other words, even if the item says GRC on it, does not mean it is officially issued. It is best to obtain such items from a Member of the Force if possible.
STILL NEED - any other official issue ERT item.
ABOVE - more acquisitions
More acquisitions - both came from a Member and the black & gray one is a uniform take-off
ABOVE - more items - the 3 in the top row have velcro on the back as does the one in the center row at right with the lighter letters. Note that the one at top center and the one in the center row at right, have a dark blue background instead of black. I believe all of these have been used, whether official issue or not. The one at top center is blue with velcro - this makes it different from a similar one pictured in the frame just 3 photos above-- that one is black with no velcro.
ABOVE -- novelty item for RCMP Crime Scene Investigation
ABOVE -- explosives patch - worn on baseball hats and black nylon shell jackets on the left chest area
ABOVE - explosives patch worn on the left front breast area of a work shirt; has velcro on the back. I have seen a photo on the Internet of an RCMP sergeant wearing this patch. Unknown if it is official issue, but it is certainly worn.
BELOW - here is the colored version of the above patch. I have seen a pic of a Member wearing it as an appointment badge on his red serge.
ABOVE -- novelty patches.
