 ABOVE -- believed to be the current RCMP door sticker;  STILL NEED  old style door stickers.

ABOVE - Here is a collage of 3 different RCMP vehicle door stickers - they are not really decals because the backs were peeled off and these were stuck on to sheets of plexiglass.  They are not water-based items.  A true water-based vehicle decal is pictured just below.

All 3 of these are reflective.  The one at Bottom Left is especially reflective due to its size, all the blank areas and its light background color.

The top item has been the current style for over 25+ years.  It is the smallest of the 3 pictured here.  It measures approximately 11.75 inches (30 cm) wide and 13 inches (33 cm)  tall.  If anyone can tell me for sure when this sticker first came into use, please tell me so I can add that info here.

The Bottom Left item is the oldest of the 3.  It was used before the switch to bilingual insignia, which started around 1972.  The one at Bottom Left was officially approved for use in July 1967 after the RCMP experimented with it for 2 years, and was in use until the change to bilingual insignia. This vehicle sticker was also the first one used by the RCMP that was highly reflective.

I have seen pics of vehicles with a similar door sticker as on Bottom Left, except they had RCMP  GRC on the bottom - still need that sticker.

The Bottom Right sticker was believed to be in use for a very short time, possibly in 1972.  Apparently there was a loud public outcry against taking the letters, RCMP off of detachment signs and vehicles, though the full English and French words appear at the bottom of this.  If you know exactly when this one was in use, please tell me and I will update the info for everyone. 

The 2 on the Bottom are almost exactly the same size and the center crests are almost identical with each other - just minor differences - the one at Right has more yellow and orange in the maple leaves.   

As for size - the one at Bottom Left measures 20 1/8 inches (51 cm) wide and  23  5/8 inches (60 cm) tall.  The one at Bottom Right is just a little bit shorter in the width but is the same height as the one at Left.

Bottom Left - the letters RCMP measure 4 inches (10 cm) tall.  I have seen a few old photos of this sticker on a car and you can read the letters RCMP from a good distance.  BELOW is a vehicle door decal.

ABOVE - this is a true vehicle door water-based decal instead of a sticker.   It still has its protective sheet on the front, so the pic you see is the item being held up to sunlight in order to read the thing properly.  In doing so, you can also see the directions printed on its back, on how to apply this to some surface.  Among other things it says on the back, is this Caution statement - which you can read at the bison's nose area -  Do not apply to cold surfaces. Before applying, allow vehicle to stand several hours in heated garage, and after applying allow to remain inside overnight.

Based upon this Caution statement, it certainly seems that this item was used on vehicle doors.

This measures 10 5/8 inches (27 cm) from top of crown to bottom of scroll, and 9 3/4 inches (25 cm) wide at the scroll.    It is the smallest of the pictured vehicle stickers/decal.

This looks like it has red lettering, but I believe this is from having it lit by sunlight and still being stuck on paper instead of applied to some surface. Because it is a decal, it is not reflective at all.  I have seen old photos going back to the 1950s where the RCMP vehicles displayed just the Force crest of the doors, and I think this is an example of that crest.

ABOVE - Highway Patrol decal/sticker for use on white HP vehicles.  Used mainly in western provinces.

ABOVE -- a large decal attached to a thick board.  This has a wire on the back for hanging it up.  This is NOT a door sticker.  It is quite thin and appears to be a water-based decal.  It also is not at all reflective.  It has several dings to it some of which are clearly seen to the sides of the crown.  Someone said it may have been used in a detachment, hung in a window to show the crest to the outside.  Another said this is a display crest, and persons' photos are often taken with this just behind them for the pic.

This is larger than a vehicle door sticker.  This measures 17 3/4 inches (45.1 cm) from the top of the crown to the bottom center, and measures 14 7/8 inches (37.8 cm) wide from below the letter R of Royal to below the letter E of Police.  Compare the measurements to the door sticker whose measurements are noted above somewhere.

ABOVE -- large polyester banner with 2 grommets at the top for hanging this up.  This measures 35 x 61 inches (89 x 155 cm).  I heard this came out for the 125th anniversary in 1998, and can still be found in detachments etc. used as media backdrops, in display cases, etc.  It is considered as a decoration.

ABOVE -- This is an old banner that was used by an RCMP band in times past.  The current banners use a darker blue color and the crest is positioned "sideways" instead of how this one is pictured.

This measures approximately 16 inches tall (41 cm) on the left side and 12 1/2 inches tall (32 cm) on the right side; it measures 17 inches wide (43 cm) from left center edge to the right center blue edge. 

The center crest measures 9 inches tall (23 cm) and 8 inches wide (20 cm).   Thanks to the guy who took the photo for me.

 BELOW -- Here is the presentation case for the RCMP Long Service Good Conduct medal.

ABOVE --- RCMP Long Service Good Conduct medal in its presentation case with a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II on the front.   Note the loose ribbon for sewing on to a uniform.    The ribbon is well lit by sunlight, which is why it looks brighter than the ribbon holding the medallion in the case.  Both ribbons are the same shades of blue and yellow.

BELOW -- the rear of the medal.  It says, For Long Service and Good Conduct -- but in French - a nice touch for a French-speaking officer. 

Most of these medals use English on the rear.  The use of French on these medals started in approximately 1989.  This medal was presented in 1994.   The officer's name is engraved along the bottom edge of the medal; the medal is approximately 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick.  The medallion is approximately 1 3/8 inches (35 mm) wide.

Since there is mainly one province where French is spoken, these medals with French on the back are far less common than the medals using English on the rear.

BELOW -- the RCMP mini sized Long Service Good Conduct  medal-rear; take a good look at it -- it uses a King's Crown.  But the obverse has Queen Elizabeth on it.  Possibly this was among the first made after Queen Elizabeth ascended the throne in 1952 - they could change the obverse of the medal, but until she decided on what crown to use, perhaps that helped to delay the switch on the reverse to a Queen's Crown.

ABOVE - another LSGC medal which was awarded in 1956.  This one is court mounted.  The Member's name is engraved on the edge.

BELOW -- pics of 27 RCMP cards from a set. Reminds me of trading baseball cards. There were 30 cards in this set. The other 3 cards not pictured below are illustrations of the then-current red serge plus 2 older uniforms. Not sure when these came out, but they all say 1873 - 1973 on the back, so 1973 is likely as part of the 100th anniversary.

The backs of the cards indicate things such as: there were 4 Deputy Commissioners; 13 Assistant Commissioners; 27 Chief Superintendents; 52 Superintendents; and almost 200 Inspectors; note the pic for the now-obsolete rank of Sub-Inspector shown by 3 pips; note that the pics for Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner show metal insignia that is no longer current for those ranks. 

ABOVE -- the RCMP Constable on a Horse stamp issued June 1935.  I don't really collect stamps, but this is a nice addition to my RCMP collection as it and the other stamps pictured here are in unused condition.  You can read the year 1935 at the lower right edge of the prairie grass (easier to see with a 10 power magnifier!).  It's hard to see on this pic, but there is a 5 point star on the constable's left sleeve.  More stamps below even though I am not a stamp collector and these are not insignia.

RCMP  "K" Division [Alberta] flag - STILL NEED - but thx to the guy who sent me pics - the flag is apparently much more faded than the pictures show us.

This shows a pronghorn antelope with a collar made of roses.

2 closeup pics are below.  This flag is obviously used.

It measures approximately 35 inches by 70 inches (89 cm by 178 cm).

The blue and yellow bison area measures approximately 18 inches by 34 inches (46 cm by 86 cm). The antelope measures approximately 17 inches tall by 12 inches wide (43 cm by 30 cm).

STILL NEED this flag and any other RCMP flag or banner.

ABOVE - the "F" Division ensign (Saskatchewan).  This is a small version.  It measures approximately 1 foot tall (30 cm) and 2 feet long (61 cm).     STILL NEED the large version of this and any other RCMP ensign or flag.

This measures approximately 34 inches by 72 inches (86 x 183 cm).

ABOVE - aiguillettes used by an Aide de Camp while escorting a high ranking government official.

While there are color variations, this one with blue and red as well as gold, is used by the ADC escorting a Lieutenant Governor of a province.

ABOVE -- here is a retirement plaque.  It uses the shabrack-type cloth on which to attach the sergeant's chevrons, 30+ years of service stars, old style cap badge, 2 collar badges and 2 old style shoulder titles.  This measures approximately 16 x 20 inches (41 x 51 cm).  The cloth is then mounted on to a nice piece of wood cut in the proper shape.  At the very top is a hook for ease of hanging.  I have seen pics of more recent retirement plaques and the recent ones are inside a glass frame instead of mounted on wood.  Compare this with a real full size shabrack pictured just below.

ABOVE --    Here is a shabrack, also spelled shabraque, which is a saddlecloth used by RCMP members such as those assigned to the Musical Ride. This is draped over the horse so that the letters MP are on the left and right rear.

The letters M and P in two of the corners have been fused together to form the logo used for many decades by the RCMP-- I think since 1887 or so.

This shabrack is the style most commonly seen used by the RCMP.

In some older photos, you can see the 4 letters RCMP on some Officers' shabracks instead of the MP logo.  There is another style currently used by the officer in charge of the Musical Ride -- that one has a double yellow stripe and does not use the fused MP logo. Instead, it uses the RCMP crest.  STILL NEED an officer's shabrack.  One is pictured on my Wanted  page.  I have seen pics of the shabrack used by the Commissioner and it uses his rank symbols of the crossed sword and baton, pip or star and a crown, instead of the MP logo.  Wish me luck on getting that one!

This shabrack is 43.5 inches (110 cm) wide at its widest points near the corners with MP.   It is 33.5 inches tall (85 cm) from corner to corner.

It measures 47 inches (119 cm) diagonally from corner to corner and the letters MP are 4 1/4 inches (11 cm) tall and the same distance wide.    The crown is 2 inches (5 cm) tall and wide including its backing material.

items.  Obviously to be used on a shabrack - just not on one at present.

ABOVE -- loose crown patches.  The yellow one at the right appears to be from a shabrack.   According to page 495 of Don Klancher's book, the white one may be a variant of a shabrack patch.

ABOVE --  I believe this is the patch used on the unofficial "shabrack" worn by some of the RCMP police dogs.  I have seen pictures of the dog wearing such a thing and the MP logo looks just like the patch pictured above, and this patch seems to be the same size as what I have seen in pictures.   Including the black background, this measures approximately 3 1/4 inches (8.3 cm) tall and 2 1/2 inches (6.4 cm) wide.  I have also seen pics of this badge patch sewn on bagpipes used by RCMP bands.

ABOVE -- another item seen in the Musical RIde -- a pennon.  This measures approximately 22 inches (56 cm) wide and 9 inches (23 cm) tall.  These attach to the lance (don't have one of those). 

ABOVE - a crimped pennon - older style; the left edge has velcro; this is about the same size as the newer one pictured above.

ABOVE -- bullion style patch similar to what is used on an officer's shabraque.

ABOVE -- nice RCMP ring; black onyx; sterling silver with gold plate.

ABOVE -- okay, I had to do it -- I had to post a pic of this guy here on my web site.  I obtained this stuffed animal from another collector.

Check out the detail - you can barely (no pun intended) see it in this picture, but the stetson has a buckle on the bear's left side.

Constable Teddy (my name for it) measures about 22 inches (54 cm) tall.

The shoulders have a plastic GRC RCMP pin and a star for 5 years of service.  The collar dogs are small but you can read the words Royal Canadian Mounted Police on them.  See the pics below.

All the buttons have a rendition of the RCMP crest.

This is the only item I obtained in 30 years of collecting police insignia, that my wife actually liked.  She thought it was "so cute" which is true.  I thought I might have to pry it out of her arms when she first looked at it.

Can someone tell me when these were made, so I can date this item?  Any info on it would be appreciated.

Now I get to figure out where to keep this silent sentinel.
